Haldi Ceremony Toggle

In the Indian cuisine, haldi or turmeric holds a special place of honour in our homes. It is known for its anti-inflammatory and other healing properties, because of which it has become popular as a medicine as well. And, one area where it holds the most important place is when it comes to Indian traditions. In Indian weddings, this amazing ingredient has an entire ceremony to its name. According to the ancient texts, there is significance for every ritual that forms a part of the Indian wedding, including the haldi ceremony. The Haldi ceremony or the Ubtan ceremony prepares the bride and the groom for the wedding day. It is like an in-home beautification process before the wedding.

It is ideal to arrange the the Haldi & Tel Baan ceremony in an outdoor spacious venue. For the Ubtan, a paste of turmeric, gram flour, curd, sandalwood, rose water is made which is applied on the face, arms and feet of the bride and the groom and is generally applied by the sister of the bride/groom. For the Tel Baan all ingredients like henna, mustard oil, sindur (vermillion), curd, turmeric, salt and mustard seeds are put in clay pots and kept in a plate. Grass is then used to apply these 5 ingredients to the bride/groom.
